Coach Jason Campbell said the development squad was to get the players used to what was going to face them in the coming season.
"Next year the 14s will go to Foster for a carnival when the rep format starts," he said.
"In the last two years we've had a 12s and 13s development squad to pretty much get them used to what's going to happen when they make the 14s, and they have to travel to Foster for a fair-dinkum rep carnival.
"The 13s have had two trial matches. They had a match against Group 2 in Bellingen about a month ago, and they played Gout 4 at Bingara last Sunday."
Campbell said the team had lost the game against Group 2 by about 30-10, but it was the first time many of the team had played at that level, and the weather was a bit warmer than they were used to.
"It was about 10-0 at half-time and then in the second half Group 2 just got away with it," he said
"But the boys leant a lot, and there were a few hard truths learnt, and we beat Group 4 26-24 on the weekend.
"Our boys learnt it's a bit different to club footie."
