An RFS spokesman confirmed that the flames were contained on Thursday, January 31, at around 9pm. Eight crews fought the blaze overnight, with a total of 16 crews working at the height of the fire on Tuesday evening.

Initially sparking around 5pm on Tuesday, the fire burnt around 75 hectares of bush land. Crews from the Armidale RFS participated in back burning, and used bulldozers to create heavy containment lines on Wednesday evening.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. The RFS reported that no homes or properties were threatened as they brought it under control.
On Thursday, the New England Zone RFS warned that residents may see an increase in smoke due to back burning, and winds were likely to produce smoke haze across Guyra, Armidale and Uralla.
Residents are reminded they should only ring Triple Zero if they see unattended flames. If you are experiencing smoke haze, check if there are any fires near in the area by visiting the RFS’ Fires Near Me page or downloading the Fires Near Me app.
