The NSW Rural Fire Service has declared a total fire ban for the Hunter, Northern Slopes and North Western regions on Tuesday with hot and windy conditions forecast.
The mercury is tipped to reach 42C in Bullarah near Moree in northern NSW while Tamworth in northeast NSW is forecast to hit 41C and Scone in the Hunter region 40C, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
There is a severe fire danger in place for the Northern Slopes region including Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains and Tamworth.
NSW RFS is urging residents in those areas to ensure their homes are well prepared in the case of fire and to remain vigilent.
