Guyra is holding Passion on the Platform, its annual lunch celebrating local produce.
The event this year will be held at the old Guyra Railway Station for the first time. Lunchers will catch a train from the Big Lamb to the platform, where a 7-course degustation awaits them.

“Apart from a fun day out, it’s a good giggle – and we all need that relief in a drought,” organiser Fiona Smith said.
“It’s a good get-together for producers, and people who appreciate what the local producers do for them. It supports the farm side of Guyra businesses. And even though there’s a drought on, we can still produce high-quality food in New England!”
The menu includes goose (from U Goose), eggs (from Working with Nature), trout (from Deano’s Springwater Smoked Trout), wagyu beef (from Trent Bridge and Door Key), tomatoes (from Blush Tomatoes), and goat (from Ban Wyong).
Toppers Mountain Wines will serve five unique varieties, and local blues band Crooked Tree will provide the entertainment.
Passion on the Platform follows Passion at the Peonies, held at the Flower Farm since 2015. Organisers are obviously passionate about the letter “P”!
“We’ve got a theme going,” Fiona said. “We’ll probably do something one day down at the Trout Farm – Passion in the Ponds!”
The event will be held on the platform to raise funds for the Guyra and District Antique Machinery Group.
“We thought it would make people more aware of our old railway line,” Fiona said.
“Quite a few of us, too, are working towards the New England Rail Trail, and so we want to promote our area as an old rail corridor. It’s part of that whole tourism / food thing. We’re supporting what’s already here in our district.
“It’s an obsolete railway line, but the railway platform isn’t. It’s a really interesting museum. There are train rides up and down the railway line. Who would normally get that?”
The event is supported through the Guyra & District Chamber of Commerce, the Armidale Guyra Business Alliance, and Guyra on a Plate.
Cost: $100 per person plus BYOB or $35 wine pairing. Tickets are available from GALA (136 Bradley Street). Phone: 6779 2132. Reservations close Wednesday, September 12.
