Susan Law has relocated from Sydney, where she was running a consultancy business, to lead the council.
“Having been a consultant for a number of years, I really wanted to get back on the frontline of local government, doing what I call real work,” Ms Law said. “Getting some things done, as opposed to advising.”

She has an impressive CV, which includes leadership positions in local government including General Manager Health Care Otago (NZ), chief executive at both Adelaide City Council and the City of Charles Sturt.
“One of the reasons I was excited about being appointed to the role, is I think the region has enormous potential, and I can’t wait to be a part of realising that potential.”
Monday was her first day, and Ms Law was busy settling into her new role when she spoke with the Armidale Express.
“It’s fair to say my head’s buzzing, a lot of people are telling me things, but these next few weeks are all about me learning about what is happening, I’m trying not to say too each and just keeping my ears open,” she said.
Ms Law said those weeks would also be an opportunity for the community and council staff to get to know her.
The new chief executive was one of five applicants interviewed by a selection panel, which included mayor Simon Murray, deputy mayor Dorothy Robinson, Cr Ian Tiley, Cr Diane Gray, Glen Innes Council mayor Steve Toms and UNE Vice Chancellor Annabelle Duncan.
