The Glen Innes Magpies’ league taggers survived a rocky start to their clash against the Moree Boomerangs to snag an eight-point win over the previous ladder leaders.
Five minutes in, the visitors found themselves down 12-nil but regrouped and scored 20 unanswered points to win 20-12.
“We didn't have any ball but once we had a bit of ball we knew our attack would kick it so it worked well,” coach David Willis said.
“We had a very slow start, we were 12-nil down in five minutes – we had a slow start when we played them in the first round also.
“After that we scored a couple of tries and it was 10-12 at half-time. Then the girls went out in the second-half and scored another 10 points.
“They kept the Boomies to zero, they didn't get any more points which was a real positive I thought, our defence.”
Club points were awarded to Emilie Hodge, Kate Fakes and Courtney Grange while Breanna Grange took out players’ player but Willis said it was an all-round effort.

“I think we only had three reserves, it was very hot but the girls went well,” he said.
“It was hard to pick players' player because that was the best game we have played all year. Hard to pick any players out that were outstanding when they gelled real well together.”
This Sunday the Magpies will be facing an unknown quantity in Narwan Eels.
The round two clash against Narwan was called off, meaning this Saturday’s game is the first time they have faced each other.
“It will be interesting, we are looking forward to that one,” Willis said.
“We talked last week at the end of the first round and we put a few challenges up that we would try and go undefeated for the next round.”
