While entries won’t be finalised until Thursday, around 25 teams – both local and outside of the region – are expected to ride into the event.
Riders from the sub-junior and junior categories through to A graders will take to the field from Saturday morning to vie for glory.
The Guyra club last held an event in September with a number of local team taking out places on the podium as well as riders picking up individual awards. Club member Katrina McKemey said they are expecting a high level of competition with the representative season just around the corner.
“There's some state events coming up and we are hoping people come and give their good horse a run for that sort of stuff so that should give us good competition,” she said.
“We [Guyra] normally have a pretty strong top side.
“Our couple of top sides are normally pretty competitive and we have quite a few strong, sub-juniors too.
“We have had a pretty good roll up of kids to our coaching weekend and our practice days the last few weekends which is good for the club.”
Teams are expected from southern Queensland through to mid-NSW. McKemey said the carnival is earlier this year than previous years, much to the relief of polocrosse players not accustomed to Guyra winters.
“Because it is at this time of the year now it is a lot warmer,” she said.
“The later it gets, the worse it gets and years ago they used to have it in July in the snow so I think people like it at this time of year for the climate too.”
The other advantage of the Guyra carnival is competitors have the chance to ride more than once horse throughout the weekend.
“It is not always multi-horse but this year it is which means you can ride more than one for the weekend. People can give their good horse a run and then maybe start a young one,” McKemey said.
The community is encouraged to come along as well as join the club for a meal on Saturday night.
