While a new committee was elected, incumbent president Murray Hartin was returned unanimously, with Melanie Jenson as vice-president.
Mr Hartin thanked outgoing board members Kendall Tait, Rachael Smith, Mick Colless and Mitch Johnstone, and welcomed new treasurer Dibs Cush from Robin’s Nest, secretary Brooke Maisey of Kenway and Clark, along with board members Nick Ball, Josh Ledingham, Phoebe Watts and Ross Munro.
Mr Hartin said the new board represented a good cross-section of the business and services community.
He said a highlight for the previous board had been working with Moree Plains Shire Council on the Mehi River Corridor Revitalisation project, which will see much needed upgrades to the river through town.
“We are really excited about the beautification and improvement in usability through this project,” Mr Hartin said.
“Chamber believes that providing amenities in our green spaces was important for current and potential residents, as well as visitors to town.
“The community now needs to show support for beautifying our river corridor, so if you see one of the petitions of support at chamber member’s shops, please sign.”
Chamber has highlighted a number of priorities going forward, which are generating community awareness and support for Moree as a hub for the Inland Rail network.
Attracting people to Moree and district for employment and education are also top of list.
“We are working with council to communicate how the district can capitalise on the Inland Rail, and what it entails for Moree,” Mr Hartin said.
“This will involve a meeting with council, interested parties and the community so people can get a sense of what the Inland Rail is and could mean for the prosperity of our town and district.”
There are also plans to hold an information session with council around its tendering process.
“We urge all contractors and those interested in providing services to council to become a chamber member, so we can work together to get as much business as possible to stay in town,” Mr Hartin said.
“The chamber is the voice of Moree and district businesses, from agriculture to financial services and everything in between, and we would like to include as many voices as possible to become one strong voice, which has a positive, can-do attitude.”
The next meeting will be held at the Post Office Hotel on October 9 at 5.30pm, for further information contact Murray on 0419 606 116 or head to the Facebook page.
