The Guyra and Glen Innes rugby club’s black tie ball was hailed a huge success with locals and club members putting their hand in their pockets to raise money for an important cause.
The event on Saturday saw around 200 tickets sold and the community hall filled with people.
Attendees pulled out their best suits and ball gowns to raise money for Five Cent Friday and the Melanoma Institute Australia.
It was held in honour of former player and massive supporter of the club, Mark Brazier.
The Guyra community spirit was alive and well with an outstanding $8200 being raised from ticket sales, the raffle, auctions and donations.
Three tonnes of wood was donated and sold, which boosted the total amount of funds raised.
Guest speaker was Jay Allen from the Melanoma Institute, who told the tale of his battle and inspired the hundreds in attendance.
We thank him for his time and inspiring speech.
There were also a number of local businesses and organisations who got behind the cause.
The club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped or was involved with the event, including the VRA and volunteers who catered the evening, Jamie and Jenette Williamson, Bill Hiscox, the Queensland Reds, Kirks IGA, Working with Nature, the Red Lion Inn at Glencoe, everyone who donated food, Will Lehman for driving the bus, as well as everyone who donated and lent decorations.
We would also like to thank the band Rough Justice for a great night of entertainment.
A huge thank you also goes to everyone who attended the ball and made the night such a great success.
Everyone there had a great time and thank you for your generosity.
It’s with events like these that we are reminded of the joys of living in a small, tight-knit community.
The club would like to make a special mention of Katherine Brazier and her boys, Angus, Harrison, Thomas and Hugo, who started the Five Cent Friday fundraiser and thank them for allowing us to put on the event in Mark’s honour. The club wishes them all the best with their fundraising as well as in the future.
Five Cent Friday continues until June 30 so it isn’t too late to make your donations to this worthy cause if you haven’t already!
