READY TO ROLL: The junior league tag girls have a shot at redemption against Tingha in the Group 19 grand final this Saturday in Armidale.

Two Guyra junior rugby league teams head to Armidale this Saturday with the hope of bringing back a premiership to town.

The under 10s and junior league tag girls have their sights set on the Group 19 trophies in their divisions.

The under 10s went through the season undefeated, with only one draw, and soared into the grand final when they beat Inverell on home turf 52-12 in the opening round of semi-finals.

Inverell bounced back last weekend to defeat Warialda and earn a shot at redemption against the junior Super Spuds in the big dance.

The girls had to get in the hard way after suffering a two-point defeat at the hands of Tingha in the opening week of finals.

They hit back in formidable fashion to down Inverell 38-6 in the qualifying semi-final and will face the Tigerettes again the the decider.

The under 12s narrowly missed out on a grand final berth after suffering a six-point defeat to Inverell on Saturday.

“We were ‘even stevens’ with only a couple of minutes to go,” Guyra junior league president Gina Lockyer said.

“They really tried hard. We were a man down through sickness.

“They really put in a gutsy effort.”

While the under 8s don’t play finals, they wrapped up their season with top spot on the ladder.

Lockyer was rapt with the four Guyra teams dominating this season.

“It has been an excellent season,” she said.

“I think everyone is going to be looking forward to next year. From where we came from last year to this year, everyone has been terrific, the club and the players. Everyone has been more involved.

“For a small club and to have three teams on top of the table and our 12s third, you can’t get much better.

“We’ve done pretty bloody good.”

A host of Guyra locals will also be playing in the older grades for Glen Innes.

The season will officially finish for the Guyra club after their presentation on Sunday at the sportsground starting at 11am.
