Police from New England Local Area Command have been told 44-year-old man was last seen at the Glen Innes Correctional Centre shortly before 1pm on Sunday 20 August 2017, but was missing at 3.30pm.
About 10.30am Monday, the man was located by a member of the public about 30kms from the correctional centre.
Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.
EARLIER:
The police have appealed to the public to be on the look out for an escaped prisoner.
They warn anyone who sees him to tell them and not to approach the man.
Forty-four year-old Clayton James Sewell was last seen at the Glen Innes Correctional Centre shortly before 1pm on Sunday.
He was reported missing just over two hours later after a search of the centre failed to find him.
Police have warned members of the public not to approach the man but instead call Triple Zero (000) immediately. He was described by the police as about 180cm tall with a medium build, short brown hair and hazel eyes.
At the time he was wearing prison greens comprising a dark green tracksuit and bomber-style jacket lined with orange”.
