The formal event on June 24 will be a fundraiser for Five Cent Friday and the Melanoma Institute and promises to be a night to remember. Melanoma survivor Jay Allen will be a guest speaker on the night.
Allen was diagnosed with the cancer when he was 32 and learned using indoor solariums could have contributed to its development.
He then campaigned for seven years to make the public aware of the risks of using them and in 2012 the NSW Government announced they would ban the indoor solarium units. Rough Justice will be providing the music on the night.
Annabelle Lenehan, along with Tegan Mendes, organised the event and encouraged locals to get behind the cause, whose meaning hits close to home.
“Five Cent Friday is a fundraiser being run by the Brazier boys whose father Mark passed away this time last year,” she said.
“The concept of the fundraiser is for people to donate their spare five cent pieces into jars located at various businesses, schools etc. around Guyra and Armidale.
“It has been inspired by the recent Love Your Sister fundraiser which raised around $2,000,000.
“We have held balls and fundraisers in the past and they have always been well supported, and this one is sure to be no different.”
The ball will be held at the Guyra Community Hall and doors will open at 5:30pm.
Tickets are $400.00 for a table of 10 or are $40 per person.
They are available through https://www.trybooking.com/QGYX or can be purchased from the Gala Centre and the Royal Hotel Guyra.
There will also be a lucky door prize which people can buy extra tickets in and jars on all of the tables for people to donate their five cent pieces.
“The proceeds are going to a great cause and it is sure to be a fun night with plenty of money raised in Mark's honour,” Lenehan said.
