Construction is well underway, and the budget is on track, with crews currently two weeks in front of planned works due to good weather conditions and limited delays in materials and contractors.
Administrator of Armidale Regional Council , Dr Ian Tiley, said he is pleased with the progress of the project which will give Guyra residents a state-of-the-art residential facility.
“This facility is well on track to be completed in September, and I am thrilled that Guyra residents will have a new, safe and functional aged care facility which will service the community for many years to come.”
Site Manager, Robert Stanborough, said the framing and internal brick veneer of stage two of the residential rooms, including the high-care facility, will commence this week and roofing for the first stage of residential rooms will begin soon.
“This project has many progressive features which have helped to accelerate the schedule and which will make the facility a high-quality , functional build. Aspects such as the level block, fantastic access, the waffle pod slabs and excellent planning make this project a stand-out,” he said.
“It will also have a great aesthetic due to every window having a pleasing outlook – whether it be external to the street or into one of the landscaped courtyards”.
Construction milestones for the site which have already been met include the laying of the entire slab, and framing and internal brick veneer for the first two residential room sections. Last to be completed will be the dining area, café, hairdresser, entry and services wing as the construction moves southwards.
Mr Stanborough said the site and its contractors have an excellent relationship with the adjoining Guyra Multi Purpose Service, and the project is utilising as many local contractors and businesses as possible.
“Many of the patients from the hospital next door have been watching with interest the daily progress of the construction,” said Mr Stanborough.
