The tournament is a school program requiring students to form teams and solve a series of critical thinking problems within a tight time frame.
Guyra Central students were busy practising their long term challenge for six weeks along with making costumes and props out of a specific list of materials including hessian and felt.
The team consisted of Samuel Atkin, Michael Looker, Kye Raper, Renee Vanderwolf, Millie Roberts, Claire Flynn and Ellie Mitchell.
They selected language literature from the discipline options in which they then had to create a play including people from all genres, movies, cartoons, nursery rhymes and everyday people to then share specific foods, typical of the particular characters.
The students presented the product of their ideas - their challenge solution - to a panel of judges and an audience on tournament day.
They had 10 minutes in which to present and did so within a three-metre by three-metre performance area.
They then participated in an unseen Spontaneous Challenge, which required rapid interchange of ideas, the ability to think creatively and well develop group cooperation skills.
Tournament of Minds looks beyond academic achievement and understands that the pursuit of excellence knows no boundaries.
It offers students a unique, total experience, providing challenge and growth through its six week problem solving structure.
It involves problem solving across a number of areas, including maths, science, literacy and social sciences. Students also have to complete additional challenges on the day, which have equal weighting to their main problem they work on for six weeks prior to the event.
The tournament process equips participants with strategies and skills which will support future success.
Students said they wished to give special thanks to Samuel James, for his encouragement and advice along the journey, which was new to them and to the parents for transport to Tamworth.
