A large crowd were on hand on Sunday, April 24 to pay tribute to local couple Max and Beverley Handebo. Max has served as a Supply Minister for the Presbyterian Church in Guyra since 2000 and, along with wife Beverley, played an active role in the church and wider community.

During his time with the church Max gave freely of his time to minister to people, not only in Guyra, but nearby towns as well.
His words of comfort and compassion in times of trouble and grief were a great comfort to many. Max was named Citizen of the Year in 2009, recognising his contribution to the community.
More than 150 people attended his final service,which was followed by a lunch in the Church Hall.
Representatives from all of the local churches were present, along with those from surrounding towns.
People travelled from Inverell, Glen Innes, Walcha, Coffs Harbour, Young and as far awaySouth Australia to attend the farewell.
