On Tuesday a record number of 82 Veteran Golfers gathered in Guyra to play the final game of this year’s Pennants Competition. We were leading the comp, but we knew that we would need a concerted effort to retain the trophy for another year.

The morale of Guyra’s team of 30 was very positive and this attitude was reflected in our scores. There were some very good scores from golfers from all the clubs, and everyone really enjoyed the day, with perfect weather and lots of run!!
This year the Pennants games have been very exciting and we have appreciated the hospitality, sportsmanship and camaraderie shown by all the clubs.
Guyra won the Pennants with a great total of 1,024 points followed by Armidale Blue with 986, Walcha with 975, Armidale Green with 946 and Uralla with 914 points.
The Ladies winner was our Pattie Hill with 41 points on a countback from Lorraine Rennie from Walcha. The longest second shot on the 5th hole was hit by Cheryl McDonald, also from Walcha.
The Men’s A Grade winner was Col Berry, from Walcha, with 41 points and the runner-up was Richard Cannon from Uralla with 39.
Men’s B Grade was won by Mike Petrov, Uralla, with 44 followed by Ron Starr with 43.
Jim Betts won the C Grade on a countback from Armidale Green’s Keith Carter with 44 points. Robert Styles from Armidale Green hit the longest drive for men on the 13th.
Nearest the pins went to Albert Egli, Uralla, on the 7th, Lorraine Rennie from Walcha on the 9th, Simon Cross from Walcha on the 10th and Errol Russell from Armidale Blue was closest to the pin on the 18th. Congratulations to you all!
Thank you to Costa’s for the delicious Blush Tomatoes that many players took home all over the New England to Uralla, Walcha, Armidale and Guyra.
Thank you also to all the people who worked so well together to make this day such a success and many thanks to every member of the Vets who travelled away and played so well throughout the competition. We are very fortunate to have such a great group of players in our club who are always generous with their support.
Quite a few visiting Vets would not have been able to play on Tuesday without a motorised cart. Thank you very much to our golfers who readily lend us their carts on these occasions.
We play Veteran’s Golf on Tuesdays at 9.30 and we would welcome any new players.
Next week will be a stroke event for the Reg Taylor Shield and a barbecue lunch will be provided.
