Food producers from in and around Guyra got together and showcased their offerings for over 120 guests at the Peony Farm.
Guyra on a plate has happened for the last two years at the Guyra Show, but this was different.
After arriving by bus, the guests were seated at the long table and were treated to eight courses - all locally sourced and locally produced goods. They dined in luxury while being entertained by a variety of acts.
The Vinnie’s Fashion show was a hard act to judge so the winner’s name was picked out of hat. The winner was Jenni Jackson who told us about the $3.00 item she purchased and was wearing and that her great sales assistant was able to entice her to purchase another dress – so all up she paid $10.00 and was very happy with her purchases.
Jenni, having been part of the organising committee, suggested that someone else should win. So a redraw was commenced and Chris Hietbrink’s name was drawn out of the hat. All of the guests thought Dot Vickery’s fuchsia pink outfit was the standout for the day.
Local producers featured on the day were U Goose, Working with Nature Eggs, Door Key Wagyu Stud, Trentbridge Wagyu, Glenore Cottage Mushrooms, Deano’s Trout, Blush Tomatoes and Lamb by Rafters Restaurant.
As a final instalment to the day the rain came down but that did not dampen the spirits, nor the will of the guests. They sat it out for desserts as the rain fell.
The bus then came and collected all of the guests and delivered them safely back to the Rafters carpark where everyone made their way home. It was a lovely day made possible with Peter Malcolm’s vision for an event in Guyra that showcased all that we have to offer in the way of food and entertainment. Fiona Smith’s organising skills helped to pull it all together.
Thank you to everyone involved from the hosts Christine and Paul Gellie at the Peony Farm, all of the producers and local entertainment and the organising committee and many, many volunteers who made the event possible.
Thank you also to Guyra Shire Council and Guyra and District Chamber of Commerce for their support of the event. Anyone with new or exciting ideas is welcome to come along to the next Chamber and Commerce meeting and be part of the next exciting event.
