In conjunction with National Security Editor Paul Maley, he was awarded scoop of the year for discovering the photo of Sydney terrorist Khaled Sharrouf’s young son holding up a severed head in Raqqa, Syria.
Greg was named as a finalist in four categories in this year’s Kennedy Awards, which are the top honour for NSW journalism.
It was the second year in a row that he took home a gong, winning last year for the Best Turf Writer.
He was also a finalist for outstanding travel writer, outstanding indigenous affairs writing and outstanding court reporting categories.
Now in their fourth year the Kennedy awards are for news professionals NSW, which is Australia’s most competitive media market.
Greg began his career with the Armidale Express and spent many years working as a feature writer with the Sydney Morning Herald, before making the move to The Australian. He is also the winner of three Walkley awards, in 2001, 2003 and 2014.
