This year Adult Learners’ Week, which takes place nationally from September 1 to 8, is celebrating its twentieth anniversary in Australia under the banner ‘unlocking learning, lifelong learning for everyone’.
The dynamic personal, social and professional benefits adult learning can bring to all Australians can be seen right here in Guyra.
Some eight million Australians learn for work or pleasure each year at adult education centres including neighbourhood houses, community centres, training organisations, TAFE colleges and universities.
NECC Coordinator Dorothy Lockyer said from 10.00am until 4.00pm there will be displays showcasing the variety of courses the college can offer.
“These courses are not only nationally recognised, but there are also many of general interest, such as cheese making, cake decorating, flower arranging, knitting, etc,” she said.
Certificate courses offered by NECC are RSA, RCG, Food Handling, White Card and Traffic Control to name a few.
“Some of these are essential to work placement and increasing your work skills and willingness to learn,” Dorothy said. “Adult Learners’ Week is the perfect time to come down to NECC, and begin or resume your lifelong learning journey.”
During the day if you enrol in one of the many courses available you may be eligible for a 10% discount on the cost of the course.
If you have a success story regarding your experiences in adult learning courses and would like to enter and win vouchers see our Facebook page for details.
“A welcome is extended to one and all to join us for a cuppa on the day,” Dorothy said. “The first 50 people who visit the centre on the day will receive a gift bag.”
