Guyra Shire Council has submitted its Rural Council proposal to be ‘Fit For the Future.’
Council has been working with the community since October 2014 to develop a roadmap to meet the Fit For the Future benchmarks, as set by the NSW Government, and is pleased to have prepared a robust plan that meets six of the seven benchmarks by 2025.
The only benchmark Council does not quite meet by the required timeframe, is the ‘Real Operating Expenditure per capita,’ where instead of the required decreasing trend, Council’s performance against this benchmark shows slight increases and decreases over the 10 year period.
I thank the community for their contribution in the development of the submission.
Council received overwhelming support for the proposal and substantial community input into developing the activities that Council plans on undertaking to become sustainable.
The results of the community engagement can be downloaded from Council’s community engagement portal www.myguyra.com.
IPART will assess the submission from each NSW council and make their recommendation to the NSW Minister for Local Government in October 2015.
All NSW Councils’ submissions will be available for viewing at www.ipart.nsw.gov.au after 30 June.
Small Business Friendly Council
Guyra Shire Council is proud to be ‘small business friendly’ as part of the state-wide initiative, The Small Business Friendly Councils Program.
The Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner, together with the NSW Business Chamber, has developed the Program to recognise councils working proactively with small businesses.
The Small Business Friendly Councils Program is a first for Australia, aimed at improving the overall business climate for small businesses in NSW and raising awareness of the difference local government can make by better engaging with small businesses.
Local Government Week
Local Government Week will be held this year on 3-9 August 2015.
Council is planning on running activities throughout the Shire to demonstrate and promote the importance of councils to residents, ratepayers, businesses, and the whole community.
This year’s Local Government Week theme is ‘Active All Areas’ which reflects the need for councils to engage with various communities which may differ by age, culture, and race.
More information about activities planned for the Guyra Shire Council will become available over the following weeks via Council’s website www.guyra.nsw.gov.au or on www.facebook.com/GuyraShireCouncil
RVEF Funding
Funding was applied for by the New England High Country member councils through their membership of Inland NSW Tourism, under the Regional Visitor Economy Fund (RVEF), which provides funding support for tourism campaigns.
The participating councils and tourism bodies contributed a total of $158,500 for the campaign which received matched funding through the program, giving a total campaign budget of $317,000.
The campaign will extend the previous ‘Experience the Highs’ campaign to attract visitation to the New England region.
The campaign will principally target motor bike touring as it is recognised that New England High Country is home to five of Australia’s foremost routes (Bruxner, Gwydir, Waterfall Way, Oxley, Thunderbolts).
The campaign will utilise a new digital platform, currently being developed. It is anticipated to take the campaign to market during Spring 2015.
Any tourism operators wishing to find out more and get involved in the program can contact Council’s Corporate Services Officer, Heather Sills, on 02 6770 7100.hans
