The Rotary Club of Guyra in 2013 saw the need in our Community for a Helipad to compliment the world class MPS and to ensure that the people of the Guyra community have the best possible health care in an emergency. We started the project boldly with a ‘Snow Ball’ and have been raising funds to get to the much needed $81,000.00 needed in order to turn the first sod. In December 2014 the Rotary Club of Guyra were still raising funds but recognised that we needed help and put out a call to action to the Community to help us get to our goal. We thank the many supporters who have come forward. On Wednesday evening, March 24 the President of the Guyra Garden Club Ms Robyn Jackson presented to our Club a cheque for $650.00 towards the Helipad.

President Robyn Jackson said the Guyra Garden Club is proud to partner with Rotary in such a worthwhile project and hope the money they raised at the Rotary Christmas Street Carnival will take the Club one step closer to commence construction. Wendy Mulligan thanked the Garden Club on behalf of Rotary and said it was wonderful that many organisations have come forward to assist our Club to get this underway. The community of Guyra will be the winner once the Helipad is in place.
However we still need local Champions to come on board and help us.
Every year between six and eight patients need to be airlifted out of our MPS via the sports ground which causes dangerous delays in accessing the best treatment. The new helipad at the MPS will mean that patients can be moved direct from the Emergency Department straight onto the helicopter with no delays and no need for additional ambulance transfers and stabilisation cycles.
Detailed costings of the helipad show that it can be built for $81,000. The Rotary Club has already raised $23,000 and other Groups such as the Hospital Auxiliary, Lions, Elders have built the fund up to $63,000 but we still need another $17,000 to get the job done.
So the Rotary Club is looking for local CHAMPIONS to fill the gap. We need local philanthropists to help out to ensure that we have the best possible emergency health facility for our community.
Every CHAMPION that can donate $500 or more to the helipad fund will have their name on a plaque on the site recognising their significant contribution to making the helipad a reality.
Come on Guyra CHAMPIONS!! Rally around, dig into your pockets and let’s get this job done and have the peace of mind to know that our people have the best support in an emergency that we can give them.
Donations, big and small, can be posted to the Rotary Club of Guyra, PO Box 91 Guyra or call Martha Weiderman at the Guyra Argus office for more information.
