Students were recognised and acknowledged for their success and achievements across academic, sporting, creative, technology, citizenship and social areas, as well as individual and personal growth and maturity.
A big thank you is sent to the many families and organisations who sponsor student awards, and to those who were able to attend the event and present awards to students.
The night began with a community barbeque where many caught up to share stories of 2014. Students sang the Music Count Us In song, Paint You A Song for special guests, family and friends.
2014 School Leader, William Lee, ran proceedings and did a magnificent job, modelling maturity and leadership skills.
Mrs Carole O’Hara, Learning and Support Teacher, will be retiring in the New Year. She was presented with a hand-made clock on behalf of all the staff, students and families of Black Mountain Public School. Mrs O’Hara will be sorely missed by everyone, and we wish her all the best for her retirement.
The night ended with a visit from the man in the red and white suit. Santa heard the students singing Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, accompanied by three talented students from Black Mountain, Laurence Kuchlmayr, Caitlin Bell and William Lee, on their guitars.
It has been an outstanding year of excellence at Black Mountain Public School. Each and every student has achieved in many areas. It was wonderful to see the students’ faces light up when recognised for their achievement.
It is a tradition at the end of every year for the school leaders to plant a tree in the school grounds that is then looked after by a selected student.
On Friday morning, William Lee and his family planted a magnolia, which will remind the students of his leadership.
The students, staff and parents of the Black Mountain Public School community look forward to 2015, being a part of a school that promotes growth and provides opportunities for all. It has been an exceptional year at Black Mountain and the school community wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
