Council has resolved to temporarily suspend a portion of Guyra’s Alcohol Free Zone to coincide with the 2015 Lamb & Potato Festival. The portion affected by this suspension will be Rotary Park on the New England Highway and the NAB Car Park.
Fit for the Future
In a recent media release from Adam Marshall and other media reports, it has been stated that Guyra Shire Council has agreed to become part of a Joint Organisation with neighbouring Councils.
These reports are not correct.
Earlier in the year we agreed to put in an application to become part of a pilot Joint Organisation arrangement. This application included our neighbouring Councils and was subsequently unsuccessful.
Under the NSW Government Fit for the Future initiative there has been a lot of talk about the benefits of Councils being involved in a Joint Organisation with neighbouring Councils and this may be an effective initiative for Guyra Shire in the future.
However, at this stage Council has not resolved to support any particular option which has been posed by the NSW Government.
This is a complex and evolving process and Council has agreed to gather more information and undertake a consultation process with our community before resolving to proceed with any one course of action.
Draft Guyra Development Control Plan
At the November 2014 Ordinary Meeting, Council resolved to place the Draft Guyra Development Control Plan on public exhibition for a period of 28 days commencing 27 November 2014.
Under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 Council is required to have a single Development Control Plan (DCP) for all properties in the Council area. The DCP is required to give guidance to persons carrying out developments and identifies development controls applicable to developments that require consent.
The DCP gives effect to the aims of Guyra Shire Local Environmental Plan 2012 (LEP) and has been developed to achieve the objectives of land zones under the LEP.
Submissions in response to the draft Development Control Plan are invited and must be lodged no later than 5.00 pm on Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Anyone wishing to make a submission must do so in writing and may use one of the following options for lodgement:
• Post your submission to:
The General Manager
Guyra Shire Council
PO Box 207
GUYRA NSW 2365
• Email your submission to council@guyra.nsw.gov.au
Water Restrictions
As a consequence of the lack of significant rainfall in recent weeks, Council has resolved to extend current water restrictions through to 1 December 2014 and impose higher restrictions from this date.
After 1 December, external sprinklers and fixed hoses will be prohibited. Also, hand held hoses may only be used for two hours per day between 6.00pm and 8.00pm.
Unless there is significant rainfall in the next few months and the town water supply is adequately replenished, these restrictions will be enforced for the duration of the summer months.
Council appreciates the co-operation of all residents to conserve our water.
December Ordinary Meeting of Council
As with previous years, to allow for the Christmas break, Council’s December Ordinary Meeting of Council will be held earlier in the month. Therefore our December meeting has been scheduled for Monday, 15 December at 8.30am.
The public, as always, is welcome to attend any Council meeting and we would encourage all residents to participate in the ‘Have Your Say’ section at the beginning of the meeting.
To become involved you are invited to email or write a letter to the General Manager requesting an opportunity to address Council and outline the issues you would like to raise.
Due to time limitations and to avoid multiple presentations related to the one topic, the General Manager will review all requests and make a determination as to who will be invited to speak at the Council Meeting.
Each party will then be allotted a maximum of five minutes to address Council, and Councillors will be given an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.
