From the outset of the match the Ghosts put their best effort on the paddock denying the Barbarians any ball. Their scrums pushed the BaaBaas’ scrum backwards, winning the scrums 13-5, including two tight heads.
In the 18th minute, an infringement by BaaBaas gave Guyra their first penalty for Beau Orchard to slot the ball over for a lead of 3-nil. The Barbarians received a penalty for hands in the ruck shortly after to level the score at 3-all.
In the 21st, 23rd and 34th minute, Barbarians gave away silly penalties for Beau to again kick for goal slotting all three for a score of 12-3 at half time.
Two minutes into the second half a good forward rush by Guyra had their No 11, Ace go over for Guyra’s first try, which was converted for a score of 19-3. Five minutes later a Guyra kick was charged down by Barbarians to score their only try of the match to close the gap to 19-10.
The Guyra defence was relentless against any attack by Barbarians, holding back any advance they tried. Guyra had all the territory in the second half with tries coming in the 21st and 27th minute; one each to Levan Stapleton and Vernon Horne who beat three defenders down the sideline to score out wide. Beau Orchard converted only one of the tries for a final score of 31-10.
