Well, after a brief hiatus junior soccer has returned with a whole gamut of associated emotions and feelings. Not the same sort of feelings that come from my other hiatus; that of the herniated type, which just brings acid reflux and an uncomfortable night’s sleep for all those in close proximity. No, I am talking of the feelings of excitement, joy and the thrill of once again gracing those grass root level fields of the Football Federation of Australia.

Now as you have been told in recent times we are not allowed to publish the results of the games being played up to and including those of the under 11 junior sides. So in absence of that we will in future be letting you know that, for example; the Under 6 Guyra Sharks brought two dogs to the game and their opposition, let’s just say the DK Devils only brought one.
Only kidding FFA. (I think they are reading this now folks, I have always tried to find ways of increasing the Guyra Argus readership and now we know the Argus is being perused at least as far away as Newcastle).
I have been unable to find out much information this week about the first round back post school holidays unfortunately as we were away over the weekend. If at all possible it would be great if coaches could get an email to me at muzleah@gmail.com each week.
Our under 6 teams continue to learn about and develop their soccer this season with some great performances delivered last Saturday. The Giants played very well as a team but with their coach away as well we have limited information available for this game.
Having a great game after the extended three week break were the Hornets. The Hornets worked really well as a team and dominated possession throughout the contest with Tom Savage scoring 5 goals showing great footwork and ball control.
No news this week for the Sharks or the Ghosts I am afraid. No information available also this week on the Under 7 Strikers and the Under 7 Geckos. I will try to catch up with these sides after next week’s round of soccer.
Playing against the Ex-Services Roar last Saturday, the Under 7 Galaxy were in for a very closely fought encounter in surprisingly cold conditions. A fast action packed game of soccer ensued with both sides deciding not to let the conditions get in the way of some quality soccer. Lucy Campbell was the goal scorer for the Galaxy with Archie Jackson, Jessica Taylor and Anna Grills all playing with natural flair and talent throughout.
I have had a little more luck in gleaning information from the coaches of our Under 8 teams this week with both our Under 8 sides performing very well.
The Under 8 Lil Caspers were up against a side that played the game by all reports very hard, pushing the limits of the fair play rules. Coach Lockyer was extremely proud of his team for their restraint on the field and their continued good sportsmanship. Special mention this week goes to Finlay Tibbs, Indiana Ramage and Page Ramage who all played particularly tough this week after some big knocks. Jack McCook showed his fighting spirit and tenacity on the field also having a fantastic game.
It seems as though the long layoff was not at all a problem for many of our sides with the Under 8 Coyotes also playing some quality soccer this week. Aidan Purvis was again lethal in front of goals, scoring 4 for his team showing some incredible skills. Kiralee McIlwain was playing her best soccer as well last week and was constantly where she needed to be with a brilliant up tempo performance.
Great in goals this week stopping many chances were Ryan and Rhett Heagney; I am guessing probably in different halves perhaps or that might not be terribly fair on the opposition. Another week off coming up for this side with the Coyotes set to have a bye next Saturday.
A close game this week for the Under 9 Gladiators who, down on numbers, put in a very spirited performance throughout the match, only conceding one goal late in the second half. Every player on the field played to the best of their ability with special mention this week to Maddie McCook, Tom Gellie and Connie Dugdale who all played extremely well.
Up against the Nth Armidale Roar a very tough and physical side, the Under 10 Grizzleys played some very attractive soccer last Saturday with Sam Graham handling the rough and tumble best for Guyra. Aaliyah Johnston played a great mid field role with her passing game and pressure on the opposition players improving markedly over the past four games. Henry Starr up front had his usual dynamic performance making plenty of breaks and scoring all of Guyra’s goals.
Playing against another Nth Armidale side last Saturday was the Under 10 Rockets with
Fletcher Richardson the best on field for Guyra. Fletcher tried all day in attack with Daniel Morgan playing a great defensive role for his side. Another one of those Ramage girls was prominent with Hallie Ramage playing particularly well in the halves. Hallie gave her all for the side and was exhausted at the completion of the game.
Now normally I can track down the ever elusive coach of the Guyra Under 12 Dragons but this week he has been notoriously shy. I think he may be avoiding me, may have something to do with the fact that he was instrumental in my removal from the field of play several weeks ago on a second yellow card infringement.
The Titans of the Under 12 Guyra variety had a very nice 2–1 win over a Nth Armidale side last week with BJ Cameron and Taylor Brennan scoring a goal apiece for their side.
This is one of those reports that very nearly did not make it to press with the once ever reliable Matriarch of soccer here in Guyra, Mrs Brooke Brennan letting me down on this occasion. Limited information on the win which I have been able to glean off the streets, you know the old adage “you believe nothing you hear and only half you see in Guyra” may hold true on this account, however, talk about town would indicate that the entire team played extremely well together with everyone getting a point.
Now with so many coaches involved, it is sometimes difficult to determine just who is in control of the Under 16 Pumas from week to week. I know, however, that Dasha would have remained at work last week and I was away with the away coach and the assistant to the assistant away coach so that only leaves the assistant away coach in control, confused yet?
After pondering on this dilemma for some time, I ascertained that Tanya Lennon was in charge. Now on contacting Tanya she was very quick to point out that once again under her control the Pumas had performed well above and beyond the level that is elicited by those other coaches.
The Pumas this week won to the tune of 13 – 0 over a TAS side with player of the match this week Kourtnee, speed queen, McFarlane scoring 5 sensational goals. Others to score for Guyra were: Vincente Abayan 3, Darcy Jackson 3, Kyle Stewart 1 and Cody Martin 1.
Cody playing up an age group continues to impress with the entire side playing some very attractive team based soccer. There was a whisper that Brodie, Logan and Kelsie were not welcome back to this side but I am sure that this is purely scuttlebutt.
