The RSPCA came under fire at the NSW Farmers conference when graziers expressed a loss of faith in the organisation to carry out its duties of policing animal welfare in an unbiased manner.

The association will push for the constable status of the RSPCA to be removed in regards to commercial livestock after a motion put by the Guyra Branch of the NSW Farmers was unanimously passed at the conference on Tuesday.
The motion put was ‘That the special constable status of the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League be removed in regard to commercial livestock.’
James Jackson (pictured), Secretary of the Guyra District Council, and chair of the association’s sheep meat committee, said the RSPCA was using its brand to drive an agenda. He spoke passionately to the motion which, after much discussion, was passed
“We see the RSPCA driving for a cease to the live export business... this is an organisation that’s moving seriously towards the dark side,” he said.
“The time has come for the Department of Primary Industries and the State government to take up the role because it’s a divisive issue and the RSPCA has lost credibility, certainly with our members at Guyra.”
Mr Jackson said removing these constable powers from the RSPCA would send a message it needed to lift its game and look at welfare in a holistic sense.
The motion to remove these powers from the RSPCA was carried.
