Sixteen-year-old Lochlan Elks capped off a terrific 2013/14 cricket season with his second successive selection in the academy.
Only three under 14 players from across the Central North zone were selected in the academy, two of those players were from Armidale.
Fourteen-year-olds Henry Smith and Henry Sindel will have the chance to mix with some of the best players and coaches in the region as part of the academy.
Sindell is an up and coming all-rounder, while Smith is a wicketkeeper-batsmen. Elks has just finished his inaugural season in first grade for Hillgrove.
The O’Connor Catholic School all-rounder returned some impressive results including three five wicket hauls and a half century in the last game of the season.
Elks said it was an honour to be selected in the academy again.
“It was a pretty good feeling to get picked for the second time,” he said. “It was a good achievement for me and the first year was really great for my cricket.”
Elks also said it was a huge thrill to mix with the best cricketers in Armidale while playing first grade in the past season.
“It was a bit of a challenge, but it was a great experience,” he said.
Making cricket his job after finishing school is now the main objective for the youngster.
“I’d love to make it a career if I could,” Elks said.
“I’ve just got to keep plugging away.”
