Firefighters and aircraft have worked since Saturday to slow the spread of the fire and try to contain it.
The fire is burning on the northern side of Pinkett Road in a north-easterly direction, the RFS state. The fire is also burning to the west in the Mount Nobbler area.
The immediate threat to properties in the area of Backwater has eased since Sunday. People in the area and to the west of Mount Nobbler should, however, monitor conditions and be ready to take action if the situation changes.
Up-to-date information is available from the RFS website and Facebook pages.
The fire started on the western side of Turnhams Road, Backwater, on Saturday afternoon, and crossed Mount Mitchell Road.
It burnt towards properties near Pinkett Road at Backwater, but the RFS, supported by the large air tanker 'Boomer', worked to protect the homes and slow the spread of the fire.
Residents should check and follow their Bush Fire Survival Plans. If they do not have a plan, the RFS recommends people decide what they would do if the situation changes. Leaving early is the safest option.
