Malpas Dam's $12.375 million pipeline to Guyra has had water pumped through it as it undergoes commission testing, but Mayor Simon Murray said there has been "teething problems".

"My understanding is that there is air getting into the system, which is causing surging at the Guyra Water Treatment Plant," he said.

"It is causing problems for the treatment side of it. So, at the moment they're trying to identify where the air is getting into the system.

"But it was all part of this commissioning phase, where we just let this system be tested and identify any minor problems."

Cr Murray said the slight problem was not unexpected.

So, let's be realistic, when compared to the thirteen million dollar pipeline this is a small issue.

"I always said we were going to have little issues that would poke their heads up from time to time, and this is part of it," he said.

"We can pump water up there, but there are issues. So, let's be realistic, when compared to the thirteen million dollar pipeline this is a small issue.

"We'll be pumping water up there on and off while we find out just where the air's getting in."
