Fourteen Guyra Central School pupils attended an HSC study day at the Guyra Bowling Club on Thursday.
They have just received their marks from their half-yearly exams last term, head math teacher Susan Leamon said, and are motivated to improve for the exams in October.
"We're giving the students some extra skills after their exams to make sure they have everything they need to get through their HSC," Ms Leamon said.

Teachers ran through study and taking notes; writing essays; managing time both in exams, and between now and the October exams; university and TAFE admissions; and relaxation and managing stress.
"It's been really beneficial," student BJ Cameron said.
Madison Morgan agreed. "We've taken a lot out of it so far - lots of new study skills and ways to memorise," she said.
They're both feeling nervous about the HSC - but BJ hopes this will help them be further ahead.
Ben Tobler, history and English teacher, was pleased to see the students eager to improve themselves. The class are hard-working and consistent; if they keep it up, he expected them to get pleasing results.
"We're really proud of them at school," he said.
John McKinnon, UNE's study officer, talked to the group about international study. UNE, like every university and many TAFEs, offers international study programs.
One former Guyra Central School student is taking advantage of them: Miles Archibald was awarded a New Colombo Plan fellowship - one of five, out of thousands of applicants - to study in South Korea.
