Council has made no announcement or promise to construct a new water filtration facility for Guyra, and it is not included in any existing schedule of works, a spokesman said.

The ongoing project to construct the Malpas Dam to Guyra pipeline includes building a powered activated carbon unit at Council's Guyra depot, to treat water in the pipeline. This is similar to the activated carbon process already used to treat the water from Guyra's two dams.
Comments made by other stakeholders during announcements of the Malpas to Guyra pipeline suggest the powered activated carbon unit might have been misconstrued as a water treatment plant, council said. (This appears to be aimed at Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall, who referred to a water treatment plant last year.)
Council is constantly assessing its assets and prioritising works to maximise the maintenance of its assets and the services to the community, within available budget and resources.
Council is also looking at options to ease demand pressures on the existing Guyra water treatment plant, to prevent the need for any upgrade or replacement in the foreseeable future. That includes investigating options for major industry users that could instead access untreated water from the Malpas to Guyra pipeline.
