The priority is to upgrade the electrical switchboard, which has reached the end of its natural life, Council project manager Ty Cook said.
Instrumentation will be installed to test water quality – a recurring issue in Guyra – both at the pumping station and the Guyra water treatment plant.
The SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) control system will be upgraded to accommodate the new equipment, and allow technicians to remotely monitor and adjust readings.
Council, Mr Cook said, also wants to reduce energy consumption. Variable speed drives (VSDs) will be installed so pumps can run at optimal speed to save power. Essential Energy will also put a new power meter on the electrical switchboard.
The upgrades are not part of the Guyra to Malpas Dam pipeline.
Would-be contractors are invited to a pre-tender meeting at 135 Rusden Street, Armidale, on Wednesday, February 27, at 9am. They will also inspect the site to understand the work involved.
