Finlay’s knock of 101, with 18 fours and two sixes, accounted for more than half of Guyra’s runs as they set 197 for City to chase.
The next highest for the side was Jason Campbell on 19.
Finlay’s ton rocketed him to the top of the Armidale District leaderboard for runs scored, the first change on the table with his skipper Matt Jackson holding poll position up until Saturday.
“He has been batting really well this year and he thoroughly deserved it, he batted well on the weekend,” Jackson said.
“I don't think he had any trouble catching me to be honest, I don't think there was going to be any doubt there.
“He was always going to catch me.”
City got stuck in early when it was their turn to bat, with their opening duo of Ash Clee and Andrew Skinner combining for 46 before Charlie White claimed the first wicket.
Tyson Burey sent the bails flying when he dismissed Clee and Nick Farrar in short succession.
Jake Ellis, Burey, Finlay and Mitch Woods continued to take wickets before Ben Spears, in making his debut in the competition, notched up a half-century.
Woods then managed to dismiss the newcomer before White and Ellis cleaned up the rest.
It was close though as City nearly grasped the victory, Guyra only winning by 12 runs.
Jackson credited the bowlers with clinching the win.
“It was nearly the exact same game as when we played them the first time this year, where we needed the 40 runs to win the game and Charlie and Tyson got the runs to get us home,” he said.
“This game was very similar but our bowlers were able to get the win.
“I just think our bowlers did really well at the death.
“Between our four strike bowlers – Charlie White, Tyson, Mitch and Jake Ellis – they bowled unreal to close the game out for us.”
There’s also strength in the camaraderie among the players.
“I don't think there's anyone in our team that doubts anyone, everyone has got confidence in everyone,” Jackson said.
“When it got tough for us and we were under the pump, I reckon all the boys stood up and supported each other a bit more.”
The coming long weekend will see a general bye for the competition and the following week Guyra have their scheduled bye.
