While Tingha is currently still in Armidale Regional Council’s Local Government Area, the matter was brought to Inverell councillors at Wednesday’s meeting after the Crown Lands Department requested council take up the responsibility in September.
It was resolved council would accept trusteeship once a written funding agreement is prepared and completed for the Crown Lands Department to fully fund the installation of a ‘grey water system’ at the Tingha Caravan Park.
The acceptance would also come once the Governor’s proclamation transferring the Tingha area from Armidale Regional Council to Inverell Shire Council has been publicised.
Inverell Shire Council general manager Paul Henry said he heard from the Office of Local Government (OLG) who informed him the proclamation would take place before December 31.
After moving the motion, Cr Stewart Berryman said the move from Armidale to Inverell had been a long wait for residents of Tingha.
