Jackson won the toss and sent his opponents in to bat.

City managed 223 with former Guyra player Kyle Taylor notching up 42, Andy Sawyer making 63 and Karl Triebe scoring 49 the leading run scorers for their side.

For Guyra, Troy Martin departed early for two but the rest of the batting line-up posted runs to chase down the total with less than three overs to spare.

“At least now we know we can chase runs as opposed to setting totals and defending them so that was a good sign on the weekend,” Jackson said.

“We are a bit scrappy in the field, we still need to lift in the field but our batting order has that bit of mongrel in them to hang around and try and get the job done.

“It is good when you can get eight down and nine and 10 get the runs.”

Jackson said it was set up by a tough early partnership between BJ Cameron and Mitch Woods who saw out dangerman Karl Triebe’s opening spell.

“We set ourselves a bit of a goal on Saturday that we wanted to limit the amount of wickets that Karl got,” he said.

“Once Karl gets on a bit of a run he can run through a team pretty quickly. BJ and Woodsy did pretty well at the top of the order to prevent him from getting any wickets.

“When he [Triebe] came back on for his second spell, Bubby got out and he was the only wicket he got for the day and I thought it was about time I stepped up and went out and tried to see him out.”

Woods returned after missing Guyra’s previous game against Ex-Services along with Jake Ellis.

They were welcome additions with key first graders Ben Jackson and Shane Wolfenden out through injury.

“Wolfy could be out until mid-January which hurts us,” Matt Jackson said.

“He was a big loss for us on the weekend but the players that came back into the side, like Jake and Mitch stood up and played really well so there are really good signs that we have a bit of depth in the club.

“He [Ellis] is back for most of the season now.

“He might miss one or two games next year but he is going to try and finish out the season now which is good.”

Guyra have the bye this weekend, which Jackson welcomed. 

“Got the bye now which is good, it gives a few of our players time to mend before our next one,” he said.
