A small tornado skipped through Armidale on the weekend, though you would never know it. It only touched down in one street; Yeoman’s Road, on the western side of the New England Highway. And it only slightly damaged three houses in the short time it was there.

One couple received extensive damage to what appeared to be a brand new garage door, while another lost about 40 tiles from their roof and suffered damage to their fence. Similarly, while another house lost tiles from its roof, but fewer in number.

The good news was that one of the residents praised her insurance company for its prompt settlement of their claim, but the event remains minor when compared to the mini-tornado that came through town in 2004. It saw the SES receive 17 calls for help in 40 minutes.
