Traffic movements at the New England Highway site were reduced to a single lane during daylight hours this week, as finishing touches are made to the western side of the concrete roundabout and the road approaches are sealed.
The temporary traffic diversion is scheduled to switch to the completed western section later this week, so work can proceed on the eastern side of the roundabout.
To minimise interruptions to road users, the site is being returned to two lanes outside working hours and on the weekend.
The new double lane roundabout is about five-kilometres south of Armidale and, when finished, will provide safer access to the Armidale Regional Airport terminal, significantly improve traffic flows and safety for motorists on the highway, link to a proposed industrial subdivision next to the terminal and it will allow for any future development on adjacent private land.
