Armidale Neighbourhood Centre’s first fundraiser began in the Armidale Mall at 10.30am on Tuesday. It was a Beatles sing-along run by Pete Stanley that attracted a good crowd of fans of the pop group’s music as well as neighbourhood centre supporters, who were all determined to have fun.
“We haven’t done a fundraiser in the three years I’ve been there, we’re just too busy doing the work with community,” centre manager Robbie Passmore said.
“This has made us very aware that an integral part of what we do in the future is [to] have an annual fundraiser. And to have a fundraising team that will support us because there’s so much that goes on behind the scenes in these events.”
Robbie was not expecting Tuesday’s event to fund a full year of their services.
“What would see us through is lots more than we’ll raise,” she said.
“But we’ve been working like beavers putting in submissions, grant tenders and things like that, so whatever we get will be a bonus.”
