Village resident Ray Chappell said the impact of the drought was close to home for many people in the community.
“We are raising funds as part of the drought appeal, and we are doing it in association with the Rotary Club of Armidale North because they are prepared to match any donations we make from this appeal,” Mr Chappell said.
“We are very excited. The money is going to a really needy cause. In particular, we will be directing this to rotary contacts state-wide. It is for families in great distress.
“It’s for the families struggling to put food on the table.”
The community has already raised in excess of $12,000 through their drought appeal, and still aiming for $15,000.
Mr Chappell said the whole community had jumped in support of the fundraiser.
“There hasn't been a single negative thought. The residents have all got behind it, but we’ve had great support from the community including local businesses,” he said.
“We have to remember that the impacts flow through every country time.”
The retirement village hosted the fundraiser for drought-affected farming families on Wednesday, August 15 from 12pm-2pm.
