So well with art that he was accepted for the University of the Arts in London which is rated as one of the best places to do the subject in the world.
The snag is that it would cost $30,000, far beyond his means.
So, what to do? Settle for second best or go for the top?
He gathered his talented muso friends and laid on a concert on Saturday night. Tickets were sold and gifts were auctioned, including some of his paintings. Bidding was brisk and enthusiastic.
At the time of writing, it’s not known how much the gig raised but the money was coming in.
He also set up a gofundme page (go to the website and type in Lachy to London).
The pitch on the site is: “Growing up in the Australian country town of Glen Innes, Lachy has spent most of his life on a farm.
“His small town upbringing provided him with a encouraging community but made it hard for art to reach him as a child, discovering it himself through drawing.
“As the years passed, and his art was beginning to be a part of regional competitions and the local shows, his confidence and desire to pursue art became evident.”
Will he make it? The enterprise is certainly there – but $30,000 is a lot of money.
