The school community has been raising funds for drought assistance campaign Buy A Bale – New England North West.

School captain Micah Scholes-Robertson said the student leadership team were the driving force behind the fundraiser. 

“Last year, the captains organised a head shave for cancer and we saw how involved everyone and how it brought the community together so we thought it was a great idea for our school,” Micah said. 

The Buy A Bale campaign delivers hay and other essentials to drought affected farmers who have no feed left to feed their cattle. 

Vice captain Samuel Frazier said the student leaders wanted to choose a charity which would directly benefit the local community. 

“Drought is a really prevalent issue. We picked it because we have a large per cent of rural families who are suffering,” Samuel said.

The fundraising has already tipped the scales with more than $3000 raised for drought relief.

A beaming principal Regina Menz said the whole community’s response to fundraising campaign had been incredible.

“It’s fantastic and the students have done it all off their own initiative,” she said.

“Every day different year groups have been putting up their hands to wax,shave and cut their hair.  It stemmed from seeing the hardship around, and it’s nice to be able to support those in our local community.”
