“I’m feeling pretty good. It was an honour to receive it,” Jack said.
“I travelled down to Sydney on the Friday and we just did some induction stuff. On the Saturday, we competed for two days.
“It’s was really interesting and pretty good fun. It was exciting to be down there with like minded people.”
Competitors participated in four categories including livestock, farm machinery, clean up a chemical spill and fencing.
Jack said he selected to study agriculture after growing up on a property.
“I’ve always been interested and have a passion for it,” he said.
“I will have a Certificate II and III in agriculture after finishing this course. It will be a good thing to help me out [in the future].”
Jack added he would encourage all students to put themselves forward for the competition.
“You’ve got to be in it to win it. I would encourage anyone to compete if they have a passion for agriculture, and enjoy meeting new people and learning new things.”
Northern Tablelands MP and Minister responsible for TAFE Adam Marshall congratulated the committed year 12 student for the terrific result against some serious competition.
The Northern Tablelands Electorate was well represented with two medalists making their mark – Jack with a silver medal in agriculture and gold medalist Courtney Baldwin in hairdressing.
“I am immensely proud to see two local students on the podium at the end of competition and I join their family and friends in extending my congratulations,” Mr Marshall said.
“Winning these awards demonstrate what is on offer for students if they choose a VET based education.”
