Senior league
League tag: The Spudettes fell to Ashford 16-6 on Saturday with Nat Hammond Guyra’s lone tryscorer.
Men’s: A sluggish start in their clash against Ashford cost the Super Spuds as they missed out on securing the two points in their away game.
The Roosters rocketed out to an 18-nil lead via converted tries to Dylan Lewis, Joel Sims and Josh Lennon before Guyra clicked into gear.
Anthony Dittman got the Super Spuds on the board late in the opening half.
The second stanza saw the visitors post first points through Brad Waters before Ashford extended their lead to 24-10 courtesy of a Kyle Hills-try.
Dittman earned his second shortly after before Brock Laybutt put Guyra within two points of the hosts.
Ashford’s Bryce Davis sealed the 30-22 win for his side with a try in the dying minutes.
“We tried to reel them in but we just can't play catch-up footy, we need to go out from the kick-off and play footy from them,” Guyra coach Dan Vidler said.
“We just started slow and we tried to peg them back, we got a try in the second-half but they scored a late try which bumped it to an eight point margin to finish.”
This Saturday will see the Spuds host Warialda this Saturday.
“I don't really know what to expect,” Vidler said.
“I have heard they are a big side up front and they have a bit of speed and talent up the back.
“As far as I know are pretty strong but we will just try and go with them the best we can and try to go with them for the first 15-20 minutes.
“We will probably make some changes and hopefully keep going forward with some impact off the bench.”
The Super Spuds line-up won’t be known until game day with a handful of injuries plaguing the side.
“At this stage there is a guy with a broken nose and a couple of niggly little injuries, a knee injury from the weekend but we won't know until Thursday,” Vidler said.
“If it comes down to it we will probably give them until Saturday morning if they need the extra couple of days.”
