Macaroons and Mums were served at Caffiends, Bradley St, this morning, as owners June and Neil Paine held their first Mother’s Day high tea.

About 40 people turned up for petits-fours and sandwiches. “It’s lovely!” said one woman. “It really can’t be faulted!” said another.
“Everyone says nothing happens in Guyra,” June said, “so we tried to create some activity here. Because so many shops have closed, we need to liven it up a little bit.”

Places for the high tea were booked out in the first week.
“I was very lucky,” June said. “The customers and the community have really helped me today.”
Glenda Soraghan had been in all morning, helping make sandwiches and pots of tea, while a florist made all the table settings.
“A lot of people went out of their way,” June said, “which is really phenomenal.”
Chamber of Commerce president Aileen MacDonald said it was a great initiative.
“It’s a great morning, beautiful food! We got to spoil ourselves, so why not have something like this in Guyra?”
Why not, indeed? June and Neil plan to make the Mother’s Day morning tea an annual event.
They’re already wondering about Father’s Day – maybe, Neil joked, pizza, snags, and footy on the telly!
June and Neil will offer high tea throughout the year any time customers want to make a booking.
“I just want to get a lot more happening,” June said, “and this is just the start!”
