Fresh off the bye, the Spuds will hit the road for the round six fixture against an Ashford side with one win on the board this season.
The Guyra men’s side will be close to full-strength and coach Dan Vidler is hoping to get through the game unscathed before they face heavyweights Warialda and Tenterfield in the ensuing rounds.
“Chris Pedlow who got the headknock at Guyra, it looks like he might be out again but other than that it is pretty much full-strength,” he said.
“We have been playing well, training well, a bit of bad weather puts a few trainings off but we will get around that.”
While the Guyra side are sitting equal second – fourth on points differential – Vidler is hoping his team can improve on their defence.

“Our defence has been good but it could be better, especially around the ruck. The other day over at Bingara, we let a late try in. We started off good but we slackened off in the second part of the first-half,” he said.
“We came out after half-time and started firing again and then we let a late try in which was a bit of a consolation, I think everyone was a bit fatigued.”
The Super Spuds’ season has lacked consistency in making it on to the field, with no back-to-back games since rounds one and two.
Vidler hopes the upcoming games will give them a bit more match fitness and put them in good stead for the remainder of the season and a finals tilt.
“If we keep training and get a bit of fitness under our belt, we will keep improving as the season goes,” he said.
“Once we get a few games in-a-row we can get a bit of match fitness. We just have to keep working for each other, that's the main thing.”
In the league tag, just one point separate Guyra and Ashford on the table.
Guyra have only posted one win this season – in round one against Tenterfield – with their last match against Bingara resulting in a 20-all draw.
Coach Graham Smith said his side need to go back to the foundations which worked for them in the past.
“Hopefully we can go to our basics, that’s what helped us last week at Bingara,” he said.
“Hopefully our experienced players help with the young players in the team.”
The Spudettes have leaked the most points in the competition this season but Smith isn’t concerned with the numbers.
“We work on our defence through the week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the ladies talk about it at half-time and after the game that they need to work harder on their defence,” he said.
“We just try and work on what we can control like our ball work and our defence.”
