The local club were crowned champions of the Southern Zone 13 pony clubs – Bundarra, Guyra, Uralla, Armidale, Martin’s Gully, Kingstown and Walcha – with more than 700 separating them from second place.
Points were tallied from the six interclub competitions and Guyra were announced the winner at the final event in Walcha on Sunday. Austin and Abbie Kelly, Josh Bourke, Charlie Ward and Robert and Matthew Sisson were also triumphant in the aggregate pointscores for their age categories.
Associate rider and the club’s publicity officer Ellen Light said it was a tremendous effort by the Guyra team with competitors turning up each week proudly donning the red and white.
“We are super proud of our club winning the Busby Shield again two years in-a-row,” she said.
“We have a lot of young, hard working riders who have been getting the rewards for their efforts.”
The competition calendar doesn’t ease off for the young squad with the club’s annual camp starting on December 28 before the Zone 13’s biggest event, the Jamboree, on January 12, 13 and 14. Guyra will play host to Jamboree which will see riders from Tenterfield, across to Inverell through to Walcha attend.
“We are very excited to be hosting jamboree this year,” Light said.
