At least, that’s the story Aboriginal Heritage Officers in Armidale tell.
And it’s a story that could be told to visitors to the region, among many others, as Armidale Regional Council shows its support for tourism signage.
Written by councillor Margaret O’Connor, a report to Council said the motion was about developing the stories of our region.
“So that everyone in our community has more help in finding places and understanding the history of the heritage,” Cr O’Connor said.
“It just seems at the moment that we’ve got an absolute wonderland of ecological and natural features as well as heritage and built items around us.
“We haven’t really had an integrated policy developed for signage.”
Council will continue to look for grant opportunities from private and public sectors.
It will consult with tourism and heritage groups to develop the interpretive signage.
