Guyra’s first grade cricketers took on an in-form Ex-Services with the hope of landing their first victory of the season.
The home side sent Servies in to bat first and struck early with Brandon Landsborough dismissing Andy Benetti for a duck. The visitors’ middle order were prepared to stand their ground as Nathan Withnell piled on 37 runs, Ben Spence managed 33 and the youngster of the team Benji Marshall top scored in his team’s total of 203 with 48.
With the ball Guyra’s bowlers finished Justin McKay 1-53, Brandon Landsborough 3-24, Ben Jackson 0-26, Charlie Keen 2-34, Nick Page 1-31 and Heath Dowsett 1-30.
With the bat Guyra struggled again, and finished all out for 86, Shane Wolfenden the topscorer with 19.
Their total against Servies is the highest for the season with the elusive 100 still evading the Guyra side but captain Charlie Keen is confident they can build on it when they take on Easts this Saturday.
“The Guyra boys definitely have the ability to get over that 100-150 run mark,” he said.
“We have to show a little more grit in the first 20 overs whether the runs come or not. I think every team is pretty wary about Easts’ bowling attack. They’ve also come off two losses so I’m sure they’ll want to get stuck into us very quick with the ball.”
