Jeannette Hillier beat out five other worthy contenders to be crowned as the state organisation’s volunteer of the year at an awards ceremony on Saturday night.
She was put forward as the Greater Northern Region’s finalist for her ongoing commitment to rugby league in the area.
Hillier currently holds the position of Group 19 president and referees coordinator at Glen Innes Minor League.
Her involvement in the sport on and off the field stretches back 30 years.
She has also refereed finals matches at junior and senior levels.
Greater Northern’s regional manager Scott Bone said it was well deserved.
“It is a great achievement,” he said.
“Jeannette's a tireless worker and been so in the area for a long time.
“The whole region is very proud of her wonderful achievements.”
