The council announced on Tuesday that it would establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Council and the Armidale Guyra Business Alliance (AGBA) comprising the Armidale Business Chamber, Guyra and District Chamber of Commerce and Armidale Locals 4 Locals.
The collaboration that comprises AGBA represents the interests of a wide cross section of businesses located in the Armidale region.
As part of the MOU, Council will make an annual contribution of $20,000 for a period of three years to fund activities that promote business and economic benefits in the region.
A Business Advisory Committee will also be established whereby the Alliance will be able to have direct access to Council and to make recommendations for Council’s consideration.
Administrator Dr Ian Tiley said that the fostering of close and mutually beneficial relationships between Council and key local community organisations and institutions has been a satisfying achievement during his term as Administrator with this MOU being the eighth such agreement with various entities.
“These Memorandums of Understanding will make an invaluable contribution and provide an enduring legacy to the social, cultural and educational wellbeing of the Armidale region,” said Dr Tiley.
“The economic wellbeing of our community is also of vital importance and it is for that reason that Council sought a relationship with AGBA in the form of an MOU.”
“The prosperity of businesses in the Armidale region is critical to the strength of the local economy and vibrancy of our town centres. For this reason, the development of an MOU between Council and the Armidale Business Guyra Alliance has been a priority,” Dr Tiley said.
